About Us

control demeter was the country’s first green company and we continue to be so. Our services include turnkey projects, project management, project design, works management, licence management, demolition using the deconstruction system, treatment of inert, common and special waste, impacted earth management and carrying out formalities with the Agència Catalana de Residus (Catalan Waste Agency).

control demeter has performed over 3,500 demolitions by means of traditional mechanical systems and using explosives, and over 2,500 demolitions using the deconstruction system, meaning a total of over 6,000 demolitions. The setting up of the first recycling plant of the Spanish State in Barcelona meant that 1,520,00 Tn were recycled and used as the sub-base material for the urban layout of the Olympic Village.

In 1980, the thermal lance was used for special works.

Backhoe loaders with chains fitted with a height adjustable arm and shears to cut reinforced concrete and metal structures were used for the first time in the Barcelona Olympic Village demolitions in 1992.

Change of concept from demolition to deconstruction

In 2002, control demeter designed Europe’s most innovative deconstruction project, the work of control demeter and the French-German Institute for Environmental Research at Karlsruhe University, to deconstruct the building located at Paseode Gracia, 82in Barcelona.

In 2003, the FAD (Foment de les Arts Decoratives) awarded the demeter technical team an honourable mention (highest award for architecture) “for its longstanding dedication to the world of deconstruction, with extensive experience nationally and internationally, and for its contribution of innovations in the sector, along with its installation of the country’s first waste management and recycling plant”.

We used the ultrafast integral ignition system to demolish the 18-storey buildings of the La Pau Neighbourhood, which had a major impact both in terms of safety and the speed of the operation.

Major international works:

  • Turkey, Earthquakes. On 17 August 1999, the Sea of Marmara was hit by a 7.4 magnitude earthquake that lasted 45 seconds and affected an area of over 6000 km2 and urban areas in the cities of Istanbul (Avcilar neighbourhood), Yalova, Izmit, Adapazari, Bolu, etc. As the result of an international tendering process financed by the I.C.O (Official Credit Institute of the Spanish Government) and the Turkish Ministry of Public Works, the Turkish Government awarded us the contract for the controlled blasting demolition of the buildings affected by the earthquake in the eastern area of the Sea of Marmara. Our work took over 18 months.980 buildings were demolished mechanically and using controlled blasting.
  • Haiti:After the 2010 Haiti earthquake and given our experience in disaster areas and in recycling for the Port of Barcelona expansion, we harnessed our endeavours and expertise to submit, together with Gestorade Runas de la Construcción, S.A., a basic project to recover and expand the port of Puerto Príncipe. The project envisaged reusing a large amount of the rubble generated during the earthquake, around 5,000,000 m3 according to preliminary estimates. The works included in this project are currently pending implementation.
  • Chile:After demonstrating to the Architecture Directorate (Ministry of Public Works) its technical skills and experience in the blasting demolition of high-rise buildings affected by earthquakes, control demeter was entered in the Official Contractors Register authorised to submit bids for the “Demolition of buildings seriously affected by the earthquake on 27 February 2010″. However, the Chilean Government decided to perform the demolitions mechanically. Additionally, a preliminary design was produced to expand Concepción Port according to the same criteria of the project to recover and expand the port of Puerto Príncipe in Haiti.
  • China: in 2011 and 2013, control demeternegotiated with the Wanzhouand Rizahoauthorities, respectively, the recycling of demolition and construction waste.
  • Argentina: in 2012, control demeter entered into negotiations with the Government of the Municipality of Buenos Aires for the future management of waste from deconstruction and construction in general, to expand the River Plate port.Even though part of the Government visited the port works in the Port of Barcelona, the River Plate port expansion was awarded to a local company.
  • Argentina: in 2013, control demeter negotiated with the Minister for the Environment, the Municipality and the Port of Montevideo for the future management of waste from deconstruction and construction in general, to expand that port. However, the project did not progress.
